Yes it can, but not exactly as one might imagine. Lets start by explaining the difference between what a Natal Chart is and what Transits are.
A Natal Chart (also called Birth Chart, Birth Horoscope, etc.) is a photo of the sky taken at the precise moment of one’s birth. It is static, never changes for the duration of the whole lifetime, it is the same till the day one passes over.
It contains a world of information, actually enough to fill a book about the person, its birth, childhood, growth, where it comes from and where it is going to, its family and parents, financial situation, career, health, death, you name it, and it is there…
Obviously not all information is relevant and also not at just anytime. On the other hand it is so much that it would overwhelm anyone of us. Consultations are usually one to one and an half hour, so it is the Astrologers duty to look for what is pertinent and also do the counselling. It is believed that each Astrologer reads not only according to their knowledge but also influenced by its own life experiences and degree of evolution. We all have a tendency to focus on any given aspect. I am aware that I tend to spend most of the time analyzing emotional patterns from previous lives and childhood as I realized those are normally the biggest source of pain and unhappiness. Could I be biased because I have to work hard at mine? Most probably, I do not know for certain, but I find that my clients are usually people who really need help in that area, and we all know there are no coincidences…..
We can thus understand why one can go for various readings, with various Astrologers and get different information. This information should always be complementing and an addition to your self knowledge but never contradictory.
Let us now look at what Transits are. When we took that photo of the sky at the time of your birth the planets where in certain positions, in specific zodiac signs (the sun was in the sign which is your zodiac sign for life) and interacting with each other in specific ways. When we take a photo of the sky now, those same planets will be in completely different places and signs. If we compare the two “photos” we can see how they are now interacting with the positions were they were then, what aspects they forming now with those of then and how long those aspects will last. From there we can interpret what is going on in your life at the moment and how long you can expect it to last. Bear in mind that the planets are in no way responsible for any of it, they are just reflecting it.
Can Astrology predict the future?
If you expect a prediction like: There is an old woman you are going to meet, she is blond and thin, dressed in red with shoes that are too big for her and holding a key holder in the shape of a heart, she is going to help you with your job and offer you a better position at a company that distributes technology (and you always worked with furniture which you dislike but couldn’t find the courage to change…), etc. No!
What you might hear from an Astrologer: It is time for a career change. Be positive, do not be insecure or afraid of change because this is the right time to do it and you will be presented with a new opportunity to work with something you really like and be better remunerated for it, so do not hesitate.
The opposite also applies, and you might hear that an opportunity for a career change will present itself but at this stage it would not be beneficial at all, it does not look long term and you should rather be concentrating in your trouble area at the moment, which you are trying to ignore …your family, for instance.
So yes, Astrology can help guide us as far as the future is concerned, by telling you what kind of energy is prevailing and what does Life want from you at a given time.
We are often puzzled as to what our lesson is when we are overwhelmed by problems and Astrology does give us some of those very answers.
